Stripping Run
Stripping runs are meant to reduce a large mash, for example 30 gallons, down to 6 gallons, for a much more manageable distilling process.
The purpose of this run is to get rid of the “junk” material and produce a liquid that is heavy in alcohol. This is where you run your still hot to get a steady flow of liquids out. The stopping point is where there is only about 40 proof or 20% ABV is coming out. This occurs when approximately 25 to 30% of the pot liquid has been run hot through the condenser.
This stripped liquid will have bad oils and yeast and other materials, so this production of reduced liquid is only meant to separate the best liquids from the large mash.
Next …. do a slow normal distilling run where you are raising the temperature slowly, throwing out the foreshots, etc. etc.
